The 2024 Lok Sabha elections marked an era of unprecedented digital transformation in political campaigns. In the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency, the sitting MP, Smt. Mangala Angadi, announced her retirement from politics. Consequently, the BJP had to identify a new candidate for the region. After deliberation, the party finalized Shri Jagadish Shettar, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka and a prominent leader from the neighboring district of Hubballi, as their candidate.

Challenges

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections presented several challenges:

  1. Fierce Competition: The political landscape was highly competitive, with vibrant community of Lingayat’s, Marathas, Muslims and Christan’s.
  2. The Sitting MP was labelled as a under performing MP, and set a narrative the BJP Party denied the tickets to sitting MP for the same reason. 
  3. Misinformation and Trolls: The rise of digital media also brought challenges such as the spread of misinformation and trolling, which could easily sway public opinion.
  4. Local Sentiment: In Belagavi, there were concerns about candidate Jagadish Shettar’s connection to the local community, with some narratives portraying him as an outsider.

 

The Thinking

Objective: Counter the negativity build by the opposition and ensure a smooth win for Mr. Jagadish Shettar. 

 

Strategy:

  • Building a compelling, voter relevant narrative, showcasing his “InsiderNess Where it Truly Matters”
  • Digital Led 360 degree multimedia approach with Digital reaching the 15 lakh   people in the constituency, every event was broadcasted live on social media, voter testimonials, development work profiling, personal whatsapp messaging, etc.
  • Harness the traditional campaign engagements like community meetings, local events, door-to-door visits, etc.

  • Content that highlighted Jagadish Shettar’s commitment and vision for Belagavi.
  •  Projected his administrative experience as an advantage for the city.
  • Highlighted the work done by Central government for the Belagavi district and built documents (pictures & videos) to showcase 16,495 cr work. 
  • Confidence building efforts in the youth – presenting a action plan of how we will built industries, skill training centres, boost connectivity, etc.
